College basketball’s best point guard in 2013 will not be Shane Larkin or Trey Burke because they are off to the NBA. So who does that leave? How about Andrew Harrison of Kentucky? But wait a minute, this guy hasn’t played a minute of college ball.

Well, he is in the top five of rivals 1023 recruiting class and the number one ranked point guard. And since most of the rest of the top ten will be his teammates, including twin brother Aaron at the two guard, he will have a ton of talent to pass the ball to. Can a true freshman be the best point guard?

Was John Wall the best point guard in the nation? Absolutely. How about Derrick Rose? You bet. Tyreke Evans. Probably. What about Brandon Knight? Maybe not, but he was close. Who coached all these guys? That would be John Calipari.

Who is Harrison’s coach? That’s right, Mr. Calipari. Coach Cal knows point guards. He knows one and done point guards who will be NBA stars. Does that Harrison is one? A lot of people in the know think so.

He can handle, pass and knock down the jumper from long range. Plus is a great defender. With all the talent he has to dish off to and with his ability to break down his man and penetrate into the lane, he will be tough to stop. Kentucky will have some decisions to make at center between an incoming freshman in Dakari Johnson or an incumbent sophomore in Willie Cauley-Stein. They also have to decide between freshmen forwards in Marcus Lee, Julius Randle or Derek Willis or sophomore Alex Poythress and junior Kyle Wiltjer. But the guards are going to be the Harrison twins. There is no doubt about that.

So Andrew can go into practice knowing that he is the guy. It is just a matter of learning the offense and his teammates after that. Since the “dribble drive” offense is mostly an offense that relies on athletic talent over complicated plays, that shouldn’t be too difficult for him.

Therefore, we predict that Andrew Harrison will be the best point guard in the nation. In this point guard driven era, that will likely make him one of the top picks in the draft.
