NBA Sunday Results: Lakers Drop Another One
It was a busy Sunday for the folks who work at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Clippers hosted an afternoon game against the Toronto Raptors. The Clippers beat them 102-83 for their sixth win in a row. The game was tight for three quarters, then the Clippers reserves led by Jamal Crawford got the team going. The Clippers outscored the Raptors 25-10 in the fourth quarter to break the game open.
Blake Griffin led the Clippers with 19 points and nine rebounds. Crawford and Chris Paul each had 16 points and Eric Bledsoe chipped in 14. The Clippers are now 14-6 and lead the Pacific Division by a game over the Golden State Warriors. After the game the stadium workers had to get busy. That’s because there was another game to play in the building that day.
The Utah Jazz beat the Los Angeles Lakers 117-110 at the Staples Center Sunday night. Paul Millsap led the Jazz with 24 points and Mo Williams added 22. The Jazz also got 14 each from Al Jefferson, Gordon Hayward and Enes Kanter. ”The way we’ve been struggling on the road, it felt good to come in here and get a big win,” Jefferson said. ”They’re the kind of team that tries to pick up the tempo on offense and not run back on the defensive end, so we tried to pick up our speed and make them run a little bit.” Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 34 points ans the Lakers lost yet another game when Bryant breaks the 30 point mark. They have won only once this year when Bryant scores 30 or more.
In other Sunday action, the Orlando Magic closed out their five game road trip by coming from behind to beat the Phoenix Suns 98-90. The win was Orlando’s third on the trip and extended the Suns losing streak to seven games. J.J. Redick led the Magic with 20 points while rookie Andrew Nicholson chipped in 19. Glen Davis added 15 points and Arron Afflalo had 14. In all, six Magic players finished in double figures. Orlando is now 8-12 on the season while Phoenix drops to 7-15.
The Milwaukee Bucks beat the Brooklyn Nets in Brooklyn 97-88. Brandon Jennings led the Bucks with 26 points and Monta Ellis scored 24 as the Bucks improved their record to 10-9 while the nets fell to 11-8. They outscored the Nets highly touted back court of Deron Williams and Joe Johnson 50-24.
The New York Knicks beat the Denver Nuggets to stay unbeaten at home 112-106. Carmelo Anthony scored 34 points against his old team as the Knicks improved to 15-5.
The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Indiana Pacers 104-93. Kevin Durant led the Thunder with 27 points and Kevin Martin added 24. The Thunder is now 17-4 and leading the Western Conference standings.
