Heat Top Clippers; Sixer Ruin Magic’s Home Opener
In NBA preseason action on Thursday, the Miami Heat took on the Los Angeles Clippers in China. The stars played some significant minutes for the NBA crazed Chinese fans. Lebron James scored 20 points and Ray Allen added 15 for the Heat in their 94-80 win. James excited the crowd with a steal and behind-the-back- save that led to a fast break dunk on the other end. Blake Griffin scored 19 points in the game for the Clippers. Dwayne Wade saw his first action since knee surgery, getting in nine minutes.
The Philadelphia 76ers beat the Orlando Magic in their first game in the post Dwight Howard era 102-95. Jrue Holiday had 27 points for the Sixers and Nick Young added 22 for Philadelphia. Glen Davis had a double double for the Magic with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Nikola Vukevic also had a double double for Orlando with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The magic held an 89-82 lead before the Sixers went on a 13-2 run to take the lead. Philly also shot 50% from behind the arc in the game going 9 of 18.
The New York Knicks went on the road to beat the Washington Wizards 108-10. Steve Novak had 21 points for the Knicks. He was a perfect 7 for 7 from the three point area. As a team the Knicks were 18 for 33. Carmelo Anthony added 17 points for New York, who raced out to a 38-21 lead. Bradley Beal scored 12 points in a 22-0 run by the Wizards that gave them a 56-53 halftime lead. Jordan Crawford had 17 points for the Wizards. J.R. Smith added 20 points for the Knicks.
The New Orleans Hornets went back to their former home area to beat the Charlotte Bobcats in South Carolina 90-87. Brian Roberts had 16 points for the Hornets while Ryan Anderson and Lance Thomas each had 14. Anthony Davis scored 12 points for New Orleans. Byron Mullens and Ben Gordon led the Bobcats with 15 points each. Ramone Sessions and Gerald Henderson each had 11 points for the losing Bobcats.
