The NBA Charlotte Bobcats basketball team play in the Eastern Conference's Southeast Division in the National Basketball Association. The team is based out of Charlotte, North Carolina and plays at Time Warner Cable Arena. The Bobcats were an expansion team that joined the NBA in 2004 two seasons after the Charlotte Hornets moved to New Orleans. The Bobcats have played in one postseason.
Robert Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television, became the first African American majority owner of a U.S. professional sports team and another notable co-owner of the Bobcats was the rapper Nelly. Bernie Bickerstaff was hired as the Bobcats' first general manager and head coach. After the the 2005-06 season, Michael Jordan became Charlotte's second largest shareholder as well as head of their basketball operations.
In February 2010, it was announced that Robert Jonson was selling the Bobcats to Michael Jordan, who became the first ex NBA player to own a franchise. The Bobcats made the playoffs for the first time following the 2009-2010 season. The Orlando Magic swept the Bobcats in the NBA playoffs first round. In 2009-2010, Gerald Wallace also became the first Bobcats player to be named an NBA All-Star.
